A contemporary penthouse with panoramic views and generic laminate flooring that didn't reflect property quality. Client wanted authentic parquet to elevate interior and create sophisticated, timeless aesthetic. Underfloor heating was present, requiring careful specification of materials and installation method.
We removed laminate and inspected concrete subfloor for moisture – critical in riverside location. Moisture barrier was applied, then sophisticated timber subbase working with underfloor heating system. We fitted premium engineered parquet (solid oak veneer on plywood core, not pure solid blocks) in refined chevron pattern using flexible adhesive suitable for heated floors.
The parquet has transformed the apartment from generic modern space into genuinely luxurious one. The chevron pattern is more contemporary than traditional herringbone, complementing apartment's minimalist interior design. Underfloor heating works seamlessly – engineered parquet is stable and won't cup or move with temperature changes.
Yes, provided you use engineered parquet rather than solid blocks. Solid wood can warp or cup with temperature fluctuations. Engineered parquet (solid veneer on plywood) is stable and specifically designed for heated floors.
Material and fitting typically range from £60-100 per square metre for engineered parquet. A typical apartment (60-80 sqm) might be £4,000–£7,000 fitted.
Herringbone is traditional and suits period properties. Chevron is more contemporary and creates stronger visual line, suiting modern minimalist interiors. Both equally durable – choose based on your interior style preference.
