A commercial property in heart of Covent Garden with period character and good foot traffic. The existing floor was worn and dated. Brief was to install contemporary parquet floor attractive to customers but practical for busy commercial space. Subfloor had been patched several times and needed comprehensive preparation.
We stripped back to concrete subfloor and prepared thoroughly. We used concrete primer and moisture barrier before laying timber subbase. Parquet was fitted in traditional herringbone pattern using high-strength adhesive and mechanical fixings. We specified premium commercial-grade sealant – matte finish to avoid glare in retail environment.
New parquet flooring has become defining feature of space. Customers and staff comment on quality and warmth. The herringbone pattern creates visual interest and choice of materials (premium oak with dark stain) was deliberate – hides dust and minor marks better than light finishes while requiring less frequent cleaning.
Yes, provided correct specification is chosen. Commercial-grade sealants are harder and more scuff-resistant than domestic grades. We recommend slightly darker stain and matte finish for commercial spaces – more forgiving and requires less frequent maintenance.
Weekly vacuuming to remove grit, monthly damp mopping, and annual strip and reseal of high-traffic areas. In busy retail spaces, consider quarterly buffing and resealing to maintain appearance.
Commercial-grade materials and finishes cost approximately 15-25% more. The sealants are tougher, installation must meet higher standards. Maintenance regime is more demanding, but floor will look and perform better in high-use environment.
